Museum Hours

The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday from 12 to 4 PM

Holiday Hours: Please be advised that the museum will be closed, Saturday, December 25th, and Saturday, January 1st. 

Requests and Rules to Visit Safely!

As per California requirements, only those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may enter these premises without a face covering. 

By entering without a face covering, you affirm you are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated, a face covering is required at all times. 

By entering the RLSM, you confirm you are not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, and have not experienced any symptoms for at least the last 3 days. 

Please wash and/or sanitize your hands. Sanitizer is readily available at the Welcome desk. 

Refusal to comply with requests will result in being asked to leave the museum. Thank you for helping us to keep everyone safe!

Please Note

There is no public restroom at the museum. Restrooms can be found next door at the St. Helena Public Library.

Admission

Museum admission is FREE for everyone. A donation of $10 per person is encouraged to help keep our doors open. Donations can be made online or in person with cash or credit cards. 

All donations are 100% tax deductible.

Holiday Hours

The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. 

Finding the museum

The museum is located next door to the St. Helena Public Library. The main entrance is located to the south (right) of the Library entrance. 

Directions

From Hwy 29 (Main Street in St. Helena) turn East (right) on Adams Street and continue over the railway tracks and past the Bank of America building. You will then see a large, Stevenson-themed billboard on the corner, at this corner turn North (left) onto Library Lane. At the end of the lane you will see the Library Complex on the right. The RLSM is in the building with the large mural of Stevenson and Treasure Island.

Parking

The Library Complex has its own parking lot on the north side of the building where visitors to RLSM can park for an unlimited time. Street parking on Library Lane is also available but limited to 3 hours. Unlimited street parking can be found on Adams Street. All parking in the area is free of charge.

Accessibility

The RLS Museum is wheelchair accessible.  Restrooms may be found next door at the St. Helena Public Library.

Only registered service animals are permitted in the museum. 

Safety and Security

Please observe the following rules during your visit to the RLSM. 

  • Silence cell phones in the museum
  • Please do not bring food or beverages into the museum. Water is permitted in a closed bottle (cups with lids do not count) 
  • Please leave backpacks and oversized bags at the reception desk. 
  • Please do not touch the collection. Many pieces are over 100 years old and can be damaged from being touched. 
  • Smoking is not permitted. 

Photography

Photographs for personal and noncommercial use are permitted unless otherwise posted. Flashes must be turned off. Tripods and video camera equipment are only permitted with arranged permission from the Museum.
